As an early intervention provider for over a decade, I came to realize that parents consistently expressed the same concerns regarding their child's speech development. Is he just a late talker? Will he catch up? Why doesn't she talk when I know she can? I've heard her say "cookie," but when she wants a cookie all she does is point or pull me to the cabinet; why won't she say "cookie?" I heard her say "up" one time, but then she never said it again. I've tried to teach him sign language, but he gets confused. Will sign language stop my child from talking? My son's sounds are coming out wrong - an e sounds like an n, a d sounds like a b; what can I do to help?I found myself giving parents the same specific strategies again and again, and in time I had a thought that it would be beneficial for parents to be able to refer to a simple, non-technical guide specifically geared towards helping toddlers learn to communicate. As parents would also often state that they did not know the words to children's songs, were not familiar with simple sign language, and did not know what children's books were best to evoke language, I decided to expand my book to include these areas as well.This book, which initially started out as a short guide, has been five years in the making. My goal is and always has been to help parents be advocates for their own children. I've received great feedback on the book so far and hope that my book continues to guide parents in helping their children learn to communicate more effectively.

I'm in the process of looking for a speech therapist for my 26 mo old toddler. Apparently, there's a shortage of them in my town. Demand is high, & I was told that with my child's insurance, it could take months (& a ton of phone calls to their office to let them know we're still interested) to get an assessment & have my child see a speech therapist. So while we're waiting for that, I figured it wouldn't hurt to educate myself with some literature. I'm sure the speech therapist offers a personal approach, but this book has gotten me started on things I can do to help & encourage my toddler to talk. That & staying on top of things by spending more time teaching him means he now speaks over 50 words, which is a big improvement. I would recommend this book to others.

Our son seems to be language delayed. I wanted a book that would give me a range of activities to do with him at home in addition to what we are given by the speech pathologist. This book is exactly what I was after and needed. Chapter 6 (Keep It Moving) and Chapter 8 (Break it Down) were especially helpful.

Needed more games for younger less verbal children. Should have shared more signs and real pictures. The cartoon characters to difficult to tell what they are doing even with instructions.

Many ideas that can be incorporated into work plans for my late talking granddaughter. Very well laid out and easy to scan content of each idea to guide where best to utilize it!

This is not the first book I’d recommend to laypeople: it’s dense with references to the latest peer-reviewed medical studies, carefully-evaluated statistics about the prevalence of ADD in modern life, focuses less on individual case studies and is generally a more clinically-oriented work than Edward Hallowell’s Distraction series, Sari Solden’s Women with Attention Deficit Disorder, Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo’s You Mean I’m Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?! or Kathleen Nadeau’s ADD-Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life. Which means it may be the perfect first resource for a skeptic who refuses to acknowledge the validity of ADD, or someone with the scientific background to find this orientation more approachable. I would always give it to medical professionals involved in an ADD-abled person’s care if the provider isn’t familiar with ADD.Lauren Williams, Certified Professional Organizer, Owner, Casual Uncluttering LLC, Woodinville, WA, USA

As a psychiatrist that specializes in treating adult ADHD this is the one book I recommend to my patients (the ones that read books anyway). Brown is one of the leading researchers in ADHD and this book makes that research understandable to ordinary people. He describes symptoms in categories that actually make sense and stays away from academic jargon that discussions of executive functioning frequently involve. He debunks the nonsense and myths and gives you the truth straight up. He is also not afraid to recommend medication as the well-proven, most effective way to treat ADHD. It is nice to hear a psychologist who can not prescribe medications openly acknowledging and advocating for the use of medication (by the way - not all ADHD medications are stimulants). On his website he has a description of his model of ADHD (he prefers the older term ADD) that is about 1 1/2 pages long that I print out and go over with my patients who have been newly diagnosed - I tell them to buy the book if they want more details.

This is probably the most helpful ADD/ADHD book I have read (about 15 total). It is written very clearly and comprehensively for the non-medical reader. Brown's later book covers about the same material but is very scientific and intended for the medical reader. I make these comments as a retired psychiatrist with ADD, who self diagnosed himself at about age 70, 4 years after retirement! More parents, teachers and doctors need to know about this book.

The information is succinct and very good. A must read for parents. Not an easy book, so be patient.

Over the last two years, I have been immersed both professionally and personally in exploring the relationship between executive functioning in the brain and personal functioning out in the world. This book is one of the most accessible volumes I have found on the neurobiological aspects of ADD. I especially appreciated the chapter on co-occuring conditions. There are many related neurological conditions such as such as depression, anxiety, and autistic spectrum disorders, that combine with ADD to make an individual's situation more complicated than is usually presented in books. My only quarrel with Brown is in his enthusiasm for stimulant medication to the virtual exclusion of other treatments. Stimulant medications can be wonderful when they work. Even when they work however, the person with ADD can benefit from his one designed counseling, training, and treatment. With that caveat, I highly recommend this book.

As someone who deals with the challenges of of ADHD (diagnosed at the age of 53, thus I fall into the Adult ADHD category), I was very happy to find an audiobook and a kindle edition on this topic that I strongly resonated with, that I understand and can share with others. I either find a book but not the audio or kindle, the audio, but not the kindle edition, or the kindle/ebook and no audio and if I found the audio and kindle, the audio was not an unabridged version.Considering the audience they are talking about and trying to reach, anyone believing they have information to share should keep in mind that ADDers utilizes more than more way of processing information. I’m always rooting for the underdog, in this case, based on the quality of this text, I’m assuming it’s a smaller publisher competing with the big publishers.Unfortunately, this book needed much editing before going to print. It’s hard to believe this is the second edition. There are glaring typos and inaccuracies throughout the book. I also wish the writing was clearer. It seems they went out of their way to avoid any semblance of plagiarism, but that made the book harder to read,I’ve used other resources to help me better understand this text. The online resources for this textbook have been good so far.

I rented this textbook for my daughter. I can't speak for the book itself, since I'm not in nursing school, but the process to rent textbooks was great. Very easy and extremely convenient.

Amazing book. The information is very succinct, straight to the point, understandanble for the average reader but full of detail. This was the book assigned to my Micro Class and I honestly feel like I should of bought it instead of renting it bc its that good

Holy Moly, this book was SPICY! I had previously read Theirs To Protect by this author, and it was so funny and cute that I immediately bought her entire catalog. I started reading Virgin Next Door expecting more of the same: lots of laughs, quirky situations, multiple partners but not too graphic sex. I also had no idea this was MMF. Usually I don't like those type of books, at all. I prefer all the attention to be on the woman, but somehow Stasia was able to write some steaming hot scenes without making the woman seem like the third wheel or just a toy/ploy to enable the men to get together (which is a mistake other authors fall into).The writing style is good! So good. Stasia doesn't have a zillion grammatical and spelling errors, and instead she spends time on each character, peeling back their stories and letting you in to care about them as a person. You want these three to end up together. You genuinely like them. The story is a great read and you actually have a bit of a plot and a well-written, developed story line. And did I mention, the sex is freaking hot?! I've read hundreds of romance novels, no joke, and this book is in the top 5 ultra steamy, dirty talk, hits all the right buttons, OMG did he do that books I've ever read. After reading the very first scene I had to put the book down at 2am and wake up my husband who was blissfully snoozing away next to me, and talk him into some half awake sexy time. That never happens with books; I can read romances in the waiting room at the vet and not get hot and bothered, but this book made me squirmy and wet. TMI? Well what did you expect, you're buying an erotic MMF hot tattooed ex-con cowboy book! ;)

How do three self-avowed Ugly Ducklings get together? This 5-star novel is an emotionally revealing portrayal of three unlikely people getting hotter and hotter for each other. Really well written. Absorbing and satisfying. The detailed descriptions of how each person in the new ménage began to notice and care for little quirks of the others, especially between the two men, brought depth to the romance and sex. I feel like I really observed maybe for the first time how an MMF threesome could work, and how love could develop. The evolving sex was fascinating. The deeper than expected attraction and resisted yet growing compassion the two tough guys felt for each other was new and uniquely insightful for this genre of romance.I do wish the author would have woven into the book more corelation between the powerful quote in the Preface, about the Ugly Duckling's lesson being to see the beauty you have always had hidden inside yourself, to the growth of each of the three partners in coming to acknowledge their own individual worth, and worthiness to others. This powerful and hopeful message could have been a bit more obviously developed.

This was an MFM erotic romance and be advised that there is some M/M action.Each of the three main characters had been dealt a pretty rough life. Although it was sad to read about how much they had to endure if was awesome to see them fall in love with each other.Plot was good.Characters were individual and independently defined through their mannerisms and talk.Sex was Hot!And always important to me - a Happy Ever After Ending.I'll definitely be reading more of Stasia Black!

Enjoyed every moment of Liam, Mack and Callas story. A rich boy playing poor, a con man with a chip on his shoulder, and a virgin farm girl who has just lost her home, and needs to pay for herdads treatment, even if he blames her for everything. Mack sets his sights on Calla, bit Liam, who definitely has a hate-hate relationship with Mack is determined to beat him to her. Calla has never been pursued by anyone before, considering she has always dressed and acted like a boy, trying to keep her daddy happy, so she has no idea what to do with either of them. An unlikely trio to say the least. Stasia has done it again.

Not a wordsmith but this book ..... there are not enough positive descriptors to give to do it justice. There were so many times I had to stop and just take a breath, the story line was too much to handle. I just love Calla, Mack and Liam! They are the epitome of all that’s ugly, sweet , and beautiful about love and relationships! This one is a treasure that will be enjoyed repeatedly! Thank you Stasia for this beautiful story!

I took my time with this read. I battled with the character relationships and interactions. I savored the character relationship and interactions. I read and reread the character relationship and interactions.This book is a trip. It is written with thought and intensity. To take 3 characters from opposite ends and opposite views on everything and somehow bring them together in the most beautiful way. Each with their own ugly, learning to love that about each other. The book is dirty but beautiful.

This was my first gay/bisexual romance. I'm not sure I could get used to two men alone, but putting a woman between the two of them made it an easier read. The story itself does imply that as well. The men could not love each other alone. They wanted the woman too. However, I had a difficult time accepting that a virgin would instantly warm up to giving herself to two men, (much less two bi-men) at the same time, before she actually experienced sex for the first time. That is why I only gave it four stars. Nevertheless, I always like a good drama to go along with the sex and romance. The family illness, and the life-long rivalry with the town debutante(tramp) adds a more human touch to the characters. Mack's past story alone would have made a good book all by itself. Maybe there is one but I haven't read it yet.

Caren Cooper is an associate professor of Forestry and Environmental Resources at North Carolina State University, part of the Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program in Leadership in Public Science, and assistant head of the Biodiversity Research Lab at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. She studies bird ecology, conservation, and management through the use of citizen science. She served as an advisor to the public television documentary mini-series The Crowd & The Cloud. The book "Citizen Science" exceeded my expectations by providing a plethora of examples of how citizen advocates in the realm of science can contribute to meaningful science research. Cooper explores how an ordinary citizen who is interested in human health, environmental health, or cosmic understanding can actively get involved in real science. This book is written so that anyone who has ever been interested in being a scientist could actually feel empowered by their contributions to the scientific world.

An excellent job in highlighting a modern scientific approach and one that can only get more attention as the Baby boomers start retiring.

An excellent introduction to the people and methods involved with citizen science. Highly recommended!

As a non-scientist, I found Cooper's book not just understandable but fascinating. She includes inspiring examples of citizen science and its impact in a wide range of scientific fields, explaining the citizen practitioners' motivation to get involved and the rewards that keep them committed.to their work. At a time when scientific findings are under attack from politically-motivated regressive forces, it's especially important to promote public engagement in, and commitment to, reality-based findings. Cooper's book will encourage the spread of such activities.

The democratic transactions many of us hold dear are evidently under assault. "What can I do?" is our frequent refrain. The good news is, we have amazing tools -- free, widely accessible -- for constructing not only our own meaning, but for getting the data to support our goals in local, regional, state, and federal contexts. Caren Cooper's book is a fine overview of the new-old phenomenon of citizen science. It is a welcome addition to a growing library around a movement we can continue to grow together, to help create the future we want.
