Excellent family friendly strategies...                                                                  - daisyqc98...an invaluable tool... ...put many of our fears to rest...                                                                 - superj300In using these skills daily he went from a non verbal child to having over 50 word vocabulary, signing and improving on communicating his wants to us. In addition to a mom of a special needs child I am also a pediatric nurse and would recommend it for health care providers.                                                                      - Jennifer ManzoI think this is an amazing resource for parent's with young children with speech language concerns. It is concise, to the point, without a lot of reading for the parent but provides visual and activities that are easy enough for a parent to try at home without thinking its a lot of extra work and time to devote out of their already busy lives. Great book! -Terri/Goodreads

From the Author
As an early intervention provider for over a decade, I came to realize that parents consistently expressed the same concerns regarding their child's speech development. Is he just a late talker? Will he catch up? Why doesn't she talk when I know she can? I've heard her say "cookie," but when she wants a cookie all she does is point or pull me to the cabinet; why won't she say "cookie?" I heard her say "up" one time, but then she never said it again. I've tried to teach him sign language, but he gets confused. Will sign language stop my child from talking? My son's sounds are coming out wrong - an e sounds like an n, a d sounds like a b; what can I do to help?I found myself giving parents the same specific strategies again and again, and in time I had a thought that it would be beneficial for parents to be able to refer to a simple, non-technical guide specifically geared towards helping toddlers learn to communicate. As parents would also often state that they did not know the words to children's songs, were not familiar with simple sign language, and did not know what children's books were best to evoke language, I decided to expand my book to include these areas as well. This book, which initially started out as a short guide, has been five years in the making. My goal is and always has been to help parents be advocates for their own children. I've received great feedback on the book so far and hope that my book continues to guide parents in helping their children learn to communicate more effectively.

I'm in the process of looking for a speech therapist for my 26 mo old toddler. Apparently, there's a shortage of them in my town. Demand is high, & I was told that with my child's insurance, it could take months (& a ton of phone calls to their office to let them know we're still interested) to get an assessment & have my child see a speech therapist. So while we're waiting for that, I figured it wouldn't hurt to educate myself with some literature. I'm sure the speech therapist offers a personal approach, but this book has gotten me started on things I can do to help & encourage my toddler to talk. That & staying on top of things by spending more time teaching him means he now speaks over 50 words, which is a big improvement. I would recommend this book to others.
Our son seems to be language delayed. I wanted a book that would give me a range of activities to do with him at home in addition to what we are given by the speech pathologist. This book is exactly what I was after and needed. Chapter 6 (Keep It Moving) and Chapter 8 (Break it Down) were especially helpful.
Needed more games for younger less verbal children. Should have shared more signs and real pictures. The cartoon characters to difficult to tell what they are doing even with instructions.
Many ideas that can be incorporated into work plans for my late talking granddaughter. Very well laid out and easy to scan content of each idea to guide where best to utilize it!
Our daughter Z was non verbal prior to this book!! This is a real winner!! We have been sharing and everyone loves it!! Our child went from non verbal to talking over 50 words with the help of This!! Our Z is on the spectrum and this works !! Don't hesitate !! Buy !! This is a top ten winner !! Thank you ~ Mrs McErlean
Interventionists and Families can read and put the strategies to use. Very easy to understand and implement. Has many resources.
This book provides great information and activities to help my delayed talker. I would recommend for any parents with concerns.
I think this book is a great tool for parents and developmental interventionists to use. It provides well thought out strategies that are easy to do and oral motor excerises that are fun. For those of us who have been in early intervention it is a resource that can spruce up our techniques. I recommned this book to many of my families.
