The JavaScript sections of this book are absolutely terrible. The code rarely works, and it jumps into concepts and functions that have an intermediate degree of difficulty. If you're a beginner, it takes you from zero to 60 without a second to take a breath in between. Just try the coding examples in the JavaScript chapters (9 through 12) and you will see that they do not work. Tough to figure out how to actually LEARN JavaScript when the code you're instructed to use isn't working. How can you figure out what is right or wrong? As a result, I've had to jump outside of the book and develop my own lines of code to execute what the book wanted me to for certain assignments. I guess I'm learning, but man, it's frustrating when you get to a new chapter and the code simply does not work!On top of that, many of the code examples differ completely from what the images show. Even my instructor noted this and said that we should be coding directly from the images themselves, rather than the code examples. Terrible, terrible proofreading and editing went into this as a whole, and I would NOT recommend this as a valid learning tool. It was somewhat fine in the beginning, but then went from "beginner" to "intermediate/advanced" once you hit the JavaScript sections.If you've been assigned this textbook, all I have to say is good luck - you'll need it!
This book is a requirement for a class I'm taking as an elective. I have learned most of what the book is teaching prior to taking this class through online video tutorials. The book teaches you the basics & fundamentals. It is geared towards beginners and does a nice job of slowly walking you through everything so it is not overwhelming. However, it is extremely overpriced! At the time of writing this review the book is sold for $95.If you are interested in learning web development, there are much better options for you out there. There are a ton of online video tutorials and sites that do a much better job of teaching you this material. Most are free and if you do decide to spend some money on a membership site (that offers better tutorials or the ability to have your code reviewed and ask questions) you will spend much less than $95Buy this book if you have to. If not look for something else
This book is terrible. Code is executed in snippets at a time, with no "before" and "after" comparisons. It has no valuable reference material, the JavaScript section goes from no experience to expecting you to debug code (not a good way), and it seems like JavaScript was just thrown in at the end so they could meet some curriculum requirement.Stay away if at all possible, this book is one of the worst written I've -EVER- seen.
This book is good for entry level learning of html5. I did not know a single thing about html before I took the course I needed this book for, and now I definitely like it and understand it. It's not bad. I rented it and it came fast with my amazon student prime membership. The condition was good/fair.
I bought the Kindle version of this book and it's pathetic; the pages that you rely on for examples to see how the code should look are EXTREMELY BLURRY! There is also a severe flaw on pages 432 and 433 that will ruin the project for chapter 9...be sure to point that out to your teacher.
Very expensive text for a web development class I'm taking. Some material is inaccurate. Redundant at points. Odd to have CSS brought in before basics of HTML are covered. If you have vision problems beware that code examples are in a very small font.
This textbook has a good overview of many web development aspects, but it's not earth shattering. It covers a broad spectrum of topics, so information does not get overly detailed.
