This low review has nothing to do with the content of the work itself, but with this particular copy of it. There are multiple errors throughout the book that make it seem like a print-to-order edition whose compiler copy and pasted out of Google Translate. If you just need a quick gist, this may be sufficient, but, if you really want to understand Freud and his theories, seek out the James Strachey editions (usually pulled out of the Standard Edition). There are some paperback reprints that are perfect. They're also worth the money.
If you are trying to make sense of your own psych then you are looking at the right book. In this book Freud analyzes the relationship between Ego and Id. Very informative and very useful. Must read.
I read this right after Intro to Psychoanalysis. I think it was a good supplement to show the further development of Freud's thought. I'm glad I read the intro first because there is some terminology he uses that I wouldn't have known. The book focuses on the id, ego, and superego and will give you a decent understanding of each of these.
Maybe my English skills are not into poetically advanced reading, but bro, I understand Sigmund Freud has a deep reputation in psychology, but he can't write if his life depended on it. His advanced choice of vocabulary coupled with his long run on sentences marks his writing impossible to comprehend. Felt like I was reading a horrible poem with no clue what what being discussed.UPDATE:I took another look at it. Its still very runon-ish, and kinda difficult to read, but its not that bad. Very interesting.
More people should read OG Freud.
