I ordered a “New†version at the full 125 dollar price and when I receive it, the edges were roughened. I thought nothing of it at first, settling with the idea that it was just from travel. Read some chapters in for class and some of the pages showed some ruffling. I brushed it off as travel damage again. But now 4am in the morning I realize that 10 pages from the textbook I need are missing. There are 10 missing pages I need for class; the textbook says that it comes with 368 pages, but mine ends at 319. I’m missing almost 50 pages in total. I can’t deny that it’s served me well for the quizzes I actually had the pages to read for from, but I’m plain disappointed at not having a full product that was advertised as “New†and sold for $125. It’s clearly used and this is affecting my academic grade.
Honestly, I had no idea how many stars to give this thing. I guess it's okay, I never actually had to use it for my class. I suspected as much, and that's why I bought this version instead of the updated version. The book was not the problem I had with that class anyways. Hopefully, I can unload this on some unsuspecting Drama 01 student this semester.
This textbook was required for one of my courses in college. Generally, I expect a book that covers this sort of topic to be useful on a broader scale. For instance, I had hoped that this would have been helpful in learning about the entertainment industry as a whole, but it wasn't useful for that purpose at all. It was extremely overpriced for what I got out of it and I would not purchase it again unless it was required.
This product was an overview, however cursory, of the theatre. While the writing was engaging, the lack of depth in certain subjects left me frustrated. It was a fun read, which is not always the case for textbooks and the Kindle version didn't give me any problems.
The seller sent me a completely different textbook and I am looking to contact them to send me the advertised version of Theatre: Brief Version, 9th Edition. Instead I have a copy of "Elements of and the Nature and Properties of Soil". This is very frustrating since I need this book for a course that I am currently taking and getting the wrong book causes me a great hassle.Please note that this is not a reflection of the book, but the seller!
Fabulous book! Specifics are enthralling; examples are like being in the theatre. Covers past, present and future of drama and musical theatre. Takes you back 2500 years of drama and all the Greeks who started it. Also, $300 less on Amazon than the college book store! I paid $6.40 for a wonderfully clean, unmarked copy.
There are so many typos in this text, it makes me wonder if anyone proof-read it.Aside from that nit-picking, there are also so many flowery ideas and explanations without any citations or quotes from other authorities on the matters at hand. Indeed, the author actually quotes himself in Chapter 3 because he apparently loves himself and thinks himself the meta-authority on the subject of theatre.That being said, he does discuss professionals in the industry and I enjoyed the playwright chapter which included an interview with Neil LaBute.
I'm so relieved that I kept searching and searching for the best deals online for college books. This was an elective, so it wasn't a class I was crazy about, and I loathed the thought that I was going to have to pay 100$ for a book I didnt even care about. All of a sudden I found this on kindle and I'm so excited I could cry, that I'm not spending as much as i spent on my tuition, on my books.
